PASSENGER RECORDS

Arrivals to America

Passenger records documenting the three immigrant grandsons of Daniel Buller who crossed the Atlantic in the 1850s and became pioneer settlers in Green Isle, Sibley County, Minnesota.

Three grandsons of Daniel Buller emigrated from West Prussia to America within a four-year span, each arriving by ship and eventually settling in the same small Minnesota township. Their arrivals are documented in passenger lists held by the National Archives and the Family History Library.

David Wilhelm Erdmann Bullert and his first cousin Gottfried Bullert both changed the spelling of their surname from "Buller" to "Bullert" after arriving in America. The reason for this change is not known. Early Zempelburg parish records interchange the two spellings throughout the 1700s and early 1800s.

Gottfried obtained permission from the German Government to emigrate from Vandsburg, Kreis Flatow, West Prussia (now Wiecbork, Poland). By the 1860 U.S. census he had settled in Green Isle Township and farmed 160 acres, receiving a land patent in 1861 from President Abraham Lincoln. The Schauer and Meihlke families who traveled with the Bullerts also settled in the area, and there were later marriages between descendants of both families.
